The memorial scholarship was launched in 2015 in memory of Olena Semikolenova, an associate professor at the Department of Interlingual Communications and Journalism at Tavriya National University. VI Vernadsky, who has devoted much of her life to researching gender aspects in language, education, upbringing, public discourse and promoting gender equality.

The competition for scholarships is announced annually among researchers of Ukraine for short-term training or research, other initiatives aimed at establishing and implementing the principle of gender equality in Ukrainian society.
